This oak wall unit is designed to neatly incorporate existing cabinets. One cabinet remains open, while the other cabinets are fitted with doors or drawers. The unit is fully customized from Timberboard Oak A/B and serves not only as storage space for the children, but also as a sitting and standing desk. The tall section also forms a stylish cover for the heating.
Cut to size wall unit from Timberboard Oak A/B
We had wanted to make a cabinet for our daughter for some time — a place where she could store her things and colour to her heart's content. What's more, this part of the room had been unused for a while, so it was the perfect location for a custom-made wall unit.
Lisanne made the first designs on paper, after which we determined the dimensions together based on the cabinets we already had in the house. It was important to pay close attention to which edges needed to be rounded.
We glued the 45° corners for a sleek finish. Only the middle section of the long shelves is screwed together, so that the furniture can be taken apart and moved in the future if necessary. A straight drilling aid tool is very useful for this.
The vertical planks next to the cabinets are screwed to the cabinets themselves and also attached to the wall. This keeps everything firmly in place, even when the children lean or stand on it.
We chose not to paint or treat the wood — the natural oak look fits beautifully with the rest of the interior. We may stain the furniture in the future, but for now we are very happy with the pure wood.
